Sharepoint Portal Manager

The main purpose of the app is its ability to synchronize SharePoint sites with other external enterprise systems. Through standard SQL INSERT entries into the central Portal Manager database an organization can create/update/delete sharepoint sites in unison with changes in, for example, a Student Information System or HR System.

The application is a NT Service that runs on one of the SharePoint application servers in the farm. It periodically (based on user configuration) pools the central database for synch commands and processes them as discovered.

Based on system integration with these other systems, when a student is enrolled, or class is created, or a new employee is hired or fired a site can be created or deleted. Site permissions can be updated as employee roles change, even when title or division or departmental assignment changes.

Features

  • Sites that are created can be based on a user definable Site Template.
  • Three Integration methods; Shared Library, table insert, or web service.
  • Site Synch commands include: add, delete, reset permission, update permission, rename, update title, backup.
  • Pluggable Synch commands. Command types can easily be added through implementation (coding) of a command type interface.
  • Synch commands can be scheduled in the future or processed as soon as they are discovered.
  • Extensive logging of all activities; what, when, where, and how long it took to process.
  • Synch commands can be set to backed up the site before any changes are made.
